Remembering Iconic Military Vehicles Through Military Video Production
At the National Museum of Military Vehicles (NMMV), telling history means going beyond dates and specifications—it means revealing the stories, ingenuity, and consequences behind the machines. For this project, Gliffen partnered with NMMV by providing historical video editing services to produce a compelling video focused on one of World War II’s most feared weapons: the 88mm Flak gun.
Through careful research, visual storytelling, graphic design, and historical video production, this piece uncovers the weapon’s secret origins, technical brilliance, and lasting impact on the Western Theater of WWII.
The 88mm Flak Gun: A Weapon Born in Secrecy
The 88mm Flak gun didn’t begin as a battlefield icon—it began as a workaround. Developed in secrecy to bypass the restrictions of the Treaty of Versailles, the weapon originated from covert collaboration and innovation, including early development ties to Sweden.
Originally designed as an anti-aircraft gun, the Flak 88 quickly proved devastating against ground targets. Its accuracy, power, and versatility transformed it into a feared tank killer, capable of dominating open terrain and reshaping battlefield tactics. This dual-purpose design made it one of Nazi Germany’s most effective—and infamous—artillery weapons.
Video Series Synopsis: Engineering, Mechanics, and Battlefield Legacy
This video guides viewers through the hidden history of the 88mm Flak gun, blending historical context with an in-depth look at its mechanical operation.
Through expertly edited visuals and narration, the piece explains how the Flak 88 absorbed recoil, cycled its breech, and used fuse-setting mechanisms to maximize lethality. By breaking down these complex systems in an accessible way, the video highlights not just what the weapon did—but how and why it was so effective.
The result is a powerful educational experience that aligns with NMMV’s mission: fostering understanding through preservation, storytelling, and technical insight.
