Search Engine Optimization (SEO) can be challenging. Who doesn’t want to be at the top of the list? Having the right content, using the right words, and being unique to improve SEO is not quite rocket science, but it’s close.

Daniel Louis, in his article “13 Ways to Immediately Improve Your SEO”, gives us a handful of strategies to try to “shoot for the moon”. He suggests to not only focus on keywords, but to attempt to increase the time that a visitor stays on your website.

He talks in length about website usability, suggesting 5 components that need to be addressed to improve SEO. They are;

  • Effectiveness-does your client achieve their goals by coming to your site,
  • Efficiency-how quickly can your client complete his/her task,
  • Learnability-how easy can your clients learn to navigate and use your website,
  • Memorability-is your website engaging enough to stay in their memory, and
  • Error Prevention-avoid broken links and error pages as these can negatively impact your SEO.

Website usability and time spent on site are two main factors, he suggests, that improve your SEO ranking on various browsers. Using good quality, helpful and relevant content with about 2500 words for the site will improve SEO. The speed of your web page, having links to external sites and unbroken links will also improve SEO.

Regarding structure, Daniel suggests using header tags and breaking the content into sections and short paragraphs to improve SEO. Have a decent site architecture that is easy to navigate will also improve your SEO.  Also, do not forget to have a contact page!

He talks about labeling images with your keywords and using different multimedia to improve SEO. A responsive design that allows for mobile access is also crucial.

Daniel also discusses the importance of social media and suggests that websites that are frequently shared improve SEO. He provides some links to share buttons for social networks.improve SEO
